Hatch Cover Hydraulic Rams Repair – Completed by Qualships at Newcastle, Australia & New Zealand

Hatch Cover Hydraulic Rams Repair – Completed by Qualships at Newcastle, Australia & New Zealand At Qualships PTY Australia, we continue to lead the way in marine hydraulic repair services, recently completing critical hatch cover hydraulic rams repairs on bulk carriers at Newcastle Port (NSW) and at a remote anchorage off the coast of New Zealand. Newcastle Port – In-Port Hydraulic Ram Overhaul A geared bulk carrier berthed at Newcastle reported heavy oil leakage and sluggish operation of No. 3 hatch cover. Our team was deployed promptly to carry out: • Onboard hydraulic diagnosis and leak tracing • Removal of damaged hydraulic rams using lifting tackles • Transportation to our mobile workshop • Full internal inspection, honing of cylinder, and replacement of OEM-approved seal kits • Hydrostatic testing at 210 bar • Reinstallation and alignment onboard • System priming, bleeding, and full function test in presence of the chief officer This critical repair was completed within 48 hours, ensuring no delay to cargo operations. New Zealand Anchorage – Onboard Emergency Repair A sister vessel encountered hydraulic failure on hatch No. 1 while at anchorage near Tauranga, New Zealand. At the owner’s request, Qualships mobilized a flying squad technician team equipped with tools, seal kits, and a portable power pack. Work carried out at sea included: • Controlled isolation of hydraulic line under supervision of ship staff • Stripping down of actuator on deck using our portable clean bench • Emergency replacement of rod seals and backup rings • Pressure test and manual function cycle of the ram Our quick and efficient onboard service allowed the vessel to resume cargo loading without the need for drydocking or port deviation. ⸻ At Qualships, we provide reliable, rapid-response marine repair solutions with strong operational presence in Australia and the Pacific region. All hydraulic repairs are carried out to class-approved standards, using certified technicians and backed by detailed service reports for surveyor submission.
